Description:

Position Summary:

Designs complex engineering products, processes, or equipment, including specifications and assembly and manufacturing methods/sequence, for company products and/or manufacturing and assembly equipment. Utilizes CAD systems extensively. Carries out finite element analysis as a regular part of design assignments. May advise lower level non-exempt clerical and technical staff.

Responsibilities of Position:

1. Works independently to gather data and input on the development of original designs or adaptations of existing designs after having been given general instructions regarding purpose and parameters.

2. Prepares and presents preliminary drawings, sketches or diagrams reflecting basic concept in order to obtain confirmation of approach, concept, and/or technique.

3. Conducts presentations with suppliers, customers and various internal departments to obtain input on, agreement with, and understanding of project objectives and schedules.

4. May supervise design drafters in the accomplishment of projects or assignments.

5. Participates in the initial studies and cost estimates for proposed projects and suggests changes to facilitate manufacture and assembly.

6. Prepares bill of materials and standards or specifications and participates in the development of project budgets, schedules, and release dates.

7. Performs such individual assignments as supervisors and superiors may direct; ensures adequate and continuous controls are exercised over all assigned activities affecting quality; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

8. May lead and direct the work of others.

9. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

10. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.

Skill Requirements:

1. Regular and predictable attendance.

5. Self-directed with a high degree of self- motivation.

6. Proficient computer skills and abilities with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).

7. Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

8. Possesses proven written and oral communications, technical presentation and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) skills.

Licensing or Special Certification Requirements:

1. Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time.

2. Travels to plant, supplier, and customer sites.

Working Conditions:

1. Occasionally lifts up to 30 pounds and frequently carries up to 15 pounds.

2. Maneuvers in, around, and about factory and/or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.

3. Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.

4. Works within an engine components manufacturing, office, and laboratory setting and is exposed to heat, cold, wet, and fumes/chemicals.

Job Location Specific Requirements:

Responsibilities:Assures the proper production, fit and alignment of components and finished fixtures and product to conform to customer specifications; validates that product meets tolerances and quality standards.1. Create and implement process flow diagrams (PFDs).2. Develop routings.3. Determine action plans to correct discrepancies, analyze problems, and make decisions.4. Train operators on new equipment and machinery.5. Implement error-proofing systems in all applicable operations.6. Develop, control, maintain, and distribute documents related to the engineering department (master drawing lists, specifications, pipe lengths, etc.).7. Interpret, apply, and implement customer specifications.8. Develop evidence manuals.9. Prove out new machinery and tools and complete approval certificates.10. Control and disposal of obsolete engineering documents in accordance with IATF 1694911. Implement and follow IATF 16949 procedures.12. Control of tooling for new models.13. Prepare and submit assigned reports on time (engineering changes).14. Support other departments (production, quality, and maintenance).15. Contribute to the plant's adopted environmental management plan, as well as to the goals of the environmental policy, and fulfill routine and emergency assignments.16. Comply with the specific requirements of applicable procedures, and participate in the environmental programs adopted by the plant to achieve environmental objectives and goals.17. Immediately follow up with and report to my supervisor or the Environmental Management Team (EMT) any emergency situation or unsafe condition that may have a potential environmental impact, and follow the established procedures for such situations. Also, report to the EMT any condition or practice that could represent a breach of environmental regulations and legislation or the procedures adopted by the plant.18. Work on the continuous improvement of production processes.19. Work directly on cost reduction.20. Develop tool and equipment suppliers.21. Validate and optimize processes.22. Conduct workshops.23. Perform LPA audits.24. Participate in updating hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk evaluation.25. Participate in the development and implementation of action plans.26. Understand and participate in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Policy and the Environmental Management Policy.27. Participate in the investigation of incidents, work accidents and severe significant environmental impacts if involved28. Reviews and approves day-to-day departmental operations, people and project assignments.29. Interviews and recommends candidates for new hire.30. Plans month to month manufacturing operations, including the scheduling of materials, purchases and planned maintenance. Coordinates with Scheduling, Sales and Engineering departments to ensure production standards and goals are met.31. Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership, develops and reviews the work of assigned staff, takes corrective action as required.32. Performs such individual assignments as the supervisor may direct; establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities. Examples include safety and environmental policy, practice and compliance audits and labor relation activities.33. Performs those administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including provision for the selection and development of employees, pay administration, budget administration, employee safety, employee counseling and motivation. Also including, but not limited to organization goals and objectives, planning, organizing, integrating and measuring the work performed within the department and ensure adequate and continuous control is exercised over the activities affecting quality

Education:

Minimum of BSME or related engineering degree.
